Yes, I'd have to agree there, a lot of horror films out there today ARE rather cheap imitations of some classics. The original Halloween itself was quite good, then it just got ruined with tons of rip off sequels.
As far as favorite movie...hmm......toughie in and of itself.......though I'd have to say either Charade, the Shawshank Redemption, or The Fugitive.

The Shawshank Redemption is a very good movie.
I agree with you, Halloween was good. In fact, its director WAS good. John Carpenter had some classic movies in the 70's and 80's such as "The Thing" remake and "Escape From New York".
Though it appears he hasn't had much luck in films lately. He's kinda like John Hughes in the fact that his glory days have seemed to pass him by.

Yep, people certain people DO appear to lose their edge as time passes. James Cameron surprisingly is NOT one of those people. Everyone said Titanic would sink him and end his career and yet shockingly it becomes the number one blockbuster hit of all time. Go figure Yeah though, Carpenter DID have good hits as you mentioned.

The thing about Titanic with me is I thought the production values, cinematography, and direction was outstanding. But for some reason, I could not stand the story between Jack and Kate. I presonally think the movie would have better if it focused on the stories of more than just two central characters.

Yes exactly, it had VERY strong points but I feel the same way. A concentration more on several individuals would have been a little more engrossing I think than your standard romance story thrown in there.

Yeah, the romance story felt.... generic. I've seen it before: Poor guy loves Rich girl. Rich girl loves Poor guy. Can't be together because of class. Blah, blah, blah. Its nothing new.

Uh huh, and I think there was actually a book out with a VERY similar plot a few years BEFORE the movie came out....hmmm.

If you guys have seen Pride and Pedjudice, it seems to have a similar plot.

Err... emmm..... not the main story itself, but it could be compared because if I'm not mistaken, one of the daughters falls in love with a rich fellow whose friend ridcules him for loving her.
I've never read the book nor have I seen any of the movies, but I know a great deal of the plot.

Is that the one with Sean Connery and escaping Alcatraz?

Yeah it is. It is about some terrorist cell creating this weird gas missiles and going to launch them at the heart of NYC. The Field of Dreams is a very stupid movie.

My cousin was in San Francisco for the weekend, and they went to Alcatraz. My dad and I told her and her boyfriend about the movie, so now that they are home in Ireland they are going to watch it.
